Lock outside your house with no key? 4 things you should know

A quick solution

If you find yourself locked out of your house and can’t seem to find your lost key, take a moment to think if any family member or friend has a spare key. No? One option is to break a window but it’s dangerous and you will still need to rekey or change the lock…and the window. You can attempt to do this yourself, but are you really a professional locksmith? For quick and easy results, it’s best to have it professionally done by a locksmith.

Rekeying Locks

When a lock is rekeyed, the locksmith replaces the existing pins and springs with new pins and springs, after restructuring the pins the locksmith will create you a new key to match the new combination. With this method, you will be able to keep your existing lock and knob. The only thing that changes for you is the key used to get in which will be a new key with. Rekeying locks allows the locksmith to see the condition of the locks and suggest you on a new lock in case the locks are old or about to fail. For instance, your locks may need to be lubricated in order to stay in working condition. Or, it might turn out that your lock wasn’t installed correctly. In that case, he will reinstall it correctly for you.

Changing Locks

Taking next solution would be to change the locks. In this case, the entire locking mechanism is swapped for a different one. This might be the best option if your current locks are old, outdated, or not working very well. Changing locks is a bit more pricy than a simple rekey, but if your locks are in bad condition you will have to replace them soon anyway.

Call a Professional locksmith

A professional locksmith will get you access to your home and be able to quickly rekey your lock. Rekeying locks is a complicated procedure that should be left for a professional locksmith. With a locksmith, you’ll be able to have the peace of mind that the lock was installed correctly. After all, it doesn’t do you any good to rekey the lock incorrectly and have it not work! A locksmith will make sure that the lock is installed correctly and in working order.

There is a reason Magic Key has such great ratings. I lost my keys and had no spares and he came tonight within the hour, after hours, and replaced and coded new transponder keys so I can get to work on time tomorrow. Ron was friendly, fast and was my life saver tonight! Thank you, Magic Key!

Great experience. After calling several locksmiths in area felt best about this one over phone. He showed up to the appt on time and was very friendly and competent. Obviously knows his trade well. Was the best price I could find and the final cost was exactly what he quoted over phone originally. Don’t think you can go wrong.

Wow! This is what customer service should be like! Polite, professional, and very reasonably priced. In 15 minutes made two keys for my Jeep at half the price of one from the dealership.I could not ask for a better experience. Highly Recommend!
